What is Prop 65?
Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was enacted as a ballot initiative in November 1986. The proposition protects the state's drinking water sources from being contaminated with chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm, and requires businesses to inform Californians about exposures to such chemicals. Proposition 65 requires the state to maintain and update a list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity which can be found here.
To be fully compliant with Proposition 65 we included the relevant warning available on our website:
WARNING -- Some products offered on this site may contain a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer.
Proposition 65 is a law specific to the state of California and US Federal law has not banned the use of the listed chemicals, so while we believe the levels of chemicals in our products are safe, we are required to include a warning on the applicable product under Proposition 65 or discontinue selling the product in California.
